Quranic Free Library Launched

Iran's first free Quranic phone library was launched with the aim of reaching out to kids, teenagers and young adults, thanks to the efforts of managers and staff of Tafseer Javan Institute. Mohammad Bistuni , the head of the Quranic centers department in Tafseer Javan Institute , told IQNA that the library has provided children, teenagers and young adults with an opportunity to read Quranic books by calling the library and ordering their favorite titles. Pointing to membership difficulties in other libraries, he said, "Anyone can fax their order to the library and receive the book they want without membership formalities or paying membership fees, no matter where they are.For ordering books, one can also log on to the website of the Tafseer Javan Institute at www.tafsirejavan.com. He further said that delivery expenses will be covered by the institute and that the library lends books totally free of charge for a specific period of time. .

China Islamic Association Holds Preaching Competition

The Al-Mo'had Islami Center affiliated to the Islamic Association of China is holding the seventh round of competition on preaching and giving sermons for Muslim clerics, prayer leaders and students of religious sciences. Mohammad-Reza Salih, Quranic researcher, told IQNA in a phone conversation that the competitions are held every two years with the aim of upgrading scientific level of clerics and prayer leaders at mosques in China. The preaching and sermon competition has been held at preliminary level in 28 provinces in China, he said, adding that a list comprising 175 individuals has been sent to the Islamic Association of China as top rivals for participating in the final step. Saleh further explained that 45 top rivals are Khui (the greatest Muslim tribe in China) and the others are Ayqor, Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Salar. Names of the arbiters of the competition were announced by Halaleddin, head of the Islamic Association of China, at the inaugural ceremony of the event on June 16.

Golden Copy of Holy Quran Displayed in Libya

A golden copy of the holy Quran, produced in Russia, is to be displayed in Libya's International Quran Exhibition, slated for the holy month of Ramadan. According to the information dissemination website 'Akhbar Al-Yawm', Manager of Russian WT Company Vladimir Prosakov said that Libyan officials sent a letter to the WT asking for the copy of the Quran to be displayed in the International Quran Exhibition. The exhibition is held with the cooperation of Authors General Council, the International Association of Islam Promotion, and the General Council for Owqaf and Relief Affaris of Liya. Organizers of the 10-day exhibition are to allot one special pavilion to the golden holy Quran. The WT Company has copied a manuscript of the oldest hand-written holy Quran dubbed "Othman's Quran", which is preserved in the Oriental Institute of Russia in St. Petersburg. The golden holy Quran was displayed for the first time in Boshkin Fine Arts National Museum in Russia with the support of the Organization of Islamic Conference as well as the Arab League. It is worth mentioning that the golden holy Quran has also been displayed in the 15th International Holy Quran Fair in Iran.

16th Quran Exhibition to Turn into Quranic Festival

The 16th Holy Quran Exhibition will turn into a national and international festival, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad-Hossein Saffar-Harandi said. Saffar-Harandi made the remark in a news conference on programs of the 16th International Holy Quran Exhibition, adding that this year's Quranic fair goes beyond displaying Quranic materials. The minister said that the exhibition is to open three days before the start of the fasting month of Ramadan this year, adding that the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance plans to organize the event from Sha'ban 15 to Ramadan 15 from next year on. Pointing to the change in the timing of the Holy Quran Exhibition, he noted that given the fact that Ramadan falls in summer this year, the exhibition will run from 15pm to 12pm everyday.

Quran Contest for Armed Forces in Makkah


The 5th international Quran memorization competition for Islamic countries’ armed forces concluded in the holy city of Makkah on Saturday, Naseej website reported. Sponsored by Saudi Arabia’s crown prince Amir Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, the week-long competition was attended by 69 Quran memorizers from the armies of 19 Islamic and Arabic countries. The participants competed in the categories of memorization of the entire holy Quran along with Tajweed, and memorization of 20, 10, and five sections (Joz) along with Tajweed. A Quranic research contest was also held on the sidelines of the event with themes like “Manners of Dialogue in the Quran” and “Spirituality and its Role in Achieving Victory”. Winners of various categories were awarded at the closing ceremony held Saturday night. According to IHA, the Quranic center, founded by the Tokat Scholars’ Association, consists of classrooms and computer facilities for holding Quranic courses. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Abdurrahman Koçak Tokat Mufti referred to the emphasis that Islam has put on acquiring knowledge and said, “Acquisition of knowledge is so much important in Islam that the first verse revealed to the prophet of Islam (PBUH) starts with a command to ‘read’. Though Islam has ordered to us read, study and learn, people do not show much interest in reading.
